I need your help!

So, this is kind of a random post, but I need help...with my hair. Those of you that know me know that I have long hair, and that I highlight it every 6-8 weeks.(just the roots) Well it is in WAY bad condition. It's been thinning, breaking etc, and is VERY dry. I also refuse to stop highlighting it...it's how I want it, so that's not an option. Cutting it off isn't an option either( though I am willing to take a few inches off). So, I guess what I need from you is suggestions on how I can help it get healthy, without going my natural color or chopping it all off.I use Aussie DEEEEP conditioner, and have realized that without it, it would probably all be broken off. Does anyone know of any miracle treatments, conditioners, oils, etc. that would really make a difference? I need to reverse this damaging procces before I end up bald!!! Please help by giving me suggestions if you can! Thanks.

Some secrets...the best thing that you can do is just trim the ends and change your shampoo and conditioners peridically. I don't know about those store bought conditioners that you put in your hair...they always made my hair more greasy.

Elise...I love you hon!

You already know the answers, you either have to stop coloring your hair or you need to cut it. The best would be to do both. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there just isn't a miracle conditioner out there to help hair once it's been damaged.

But, if those two things are definitely NOT options, then you need some leave-in conditioners. Make sure that they don't have ANY alcohol in them because it just dries out your hair.

Once or maybe even twice a week give your hair a treatment. Wet your hair down, put some conditioner in your hair, and then wrap it up in a towel or saran wrap or nothing at all. Leave it for at least 15 to 20 minutes..

Also if you can, once a week don't do anything with your hair once you've washed it. Don't put any product in it, don't curl it or blow it dry with a blow dryer. Just let it dry on it's own. It's hard to do this though because we all want to look nice. :)

That's all I've got. lol Good luck!

Thanks Lacey. I'll try a few things before I decide to chop it.

ok I know you don't want to color or cut your hair, I know how you love your hair, I'm the same with mine. But I think maybe the best thing to do is to cut your hair. You can still have it long but maybe cut a couple of inches off. Also let your hairs natural oils come through (don't wash your hair for a couple of days) and do that once a week or so. Also don't use anything on your hair and just let it hair dry like lacey was talking about! good luck!

thanks Judy. I actually cut an inch off every couple of months. Next week I have a hair app. I'll have her cut off 3 or 4 inches...if that doesnt make a difference I'll have to chop it short.

Elise. . . I only know this because my mom does hair so here are some at home remedies. First of all get you hair wet this sounds gross but it will give your hair so much moisture but use mayoniase like conditioner, leave it in for about 20 minutes than just rinse it out and pull it up wet and don't dry it for at least 8 hours you can do this 2 times a week, also get hot oil treatments, there are a lot that are leave in and they will really make a difference, also if you want to continue to blow dry your hair daily, you can get a leave in lotion for your hair I know paul mitchell has one but you can also get one that herbal essence has, and last get a flat iron protectant spray, it helps keep moisture in your hair if you flat iron it often. I have done all of this because a girl badly colored my hair and ruined it but this really does help I promise.

Well, I am a hair stylist and actually have a client exactly like you!! I do her hair, her bleach blonde hair, every 5 weeks, and that is a stretch to make it that long. We also just do the regrowth because when she came to me, the damage had already been done. I've been trying to get her hair back to normal for a really long time. It is so sad, but you should cut at least a couple inches off. I talked my client into finally doing a solid low light color underneath, not way dark more like a dark blonde so you don't look like salt and pepper! It looked a lot healthier that way. I also hate to tell you this but, Aussie is not what I would be using. All store bought products have a lot of chemicals in them to make your hair look great but aren't good. For example, Suave, might as well give yourself a perm every time you use it. A lot of them "Coat" your hair, so the hair appears to look healthy and shiny but really isn't. It just keeps coating and coating the hair strand, the outer only, not even penetrating into the actual hair shaft leaving you with layers of coated junk on your hair if you will. So, if you have great friends that do hair and could swing by the supply store for you so you won't break the bank account, that'd be great. If not, you can head up north to Taylor maid, it's in Provo on Center Street or a trade secret or something in the mall. Start reading your bottles and find a reconstructing, color treated or chemically damaged conditioner, i'd do shampoo too but conditioner is the most important. Shampoo cleanses your hair and is rinsed out and conditioner is what really conditions it and is actually left behind. Also, shampoo your scalp, and condition the ends. Leave the conditioner in while you shave or whatever, but leave it in for a good 3 minutes on those ends. Also, find yourself a deep condionting treatment, professional product, at the stores I suggested, that can be used 2 or 3 times a week. If you use those every day, your hair will be heavy. Another tip, wet your hair a couple nights a week, put your conditioner through it and sleep with a shower cap on. Just take care of your hair girlie! I know it's hard to stop with the blonde but if you can at least break it up, but some low lights through it, much less damaging, and ease your way into it. Never never go through your ends with the blonde, especially if you're using bleach. Also, you hair is weakest when it's wet, never pull your hair back when it's wet, if it's already damaged, it'll break, use clips if you need it back wet. Also, careful with sleeping with those hair ties as well. Lastly, always, use a heat protectant, you put this in before blow drying and flat ironing your hair. Also can find it at those stores. You just read and pick your favorites, I suggest staying away from bed head shampoo and conditioner, love their styling products but not the shampoo and stuff. Also, don't like paul mitchell too great, it makes my hair knotted and static. Everyone's hair reacts differently so that's why you can read and pick your favorite, if you can find Pureology, use that! Love it! Sorry this is so long but that's just what happens when I have to write everything! That's the best I can do without telling you to go back one solid color, your natural color, and to cut a lot of it off. Let me know if this helps. It's worked on my client, we're still trying to heal her hair though. Just take care of it. Unfortunately, you're going to have to spend money for good products. Good luck!!

I agree with Kristy  Elise let me tell you my story in college. You will laugh at this and anyone who remembers my hair (Bonnie & Nicole) will laugh hysterically. First of all I went from having platinum blonde hair to all dark… I loved the dark hair but I then decided I wanted to go back platinum blonde (this kills your hair). My hair was all blonde and then I decided I wanted to put reddish/auburn highlights in my platinum blonde hair. I truly don’t know what I was thinking… Anyways, my mom was on vacation and my cousin colored hair so I asked her for the product. Of course she gave it to me and I took the liberty of coloring my own hair. This was a complete disaster… my hair went bright pink seriously BRIGHT PINK. I didn’t know hair could go that color. I was in complete tears so I tried to color my hair back all dark and it went a crazy weird color. I called my mom crying and waited patiently until she returned from her vacation. (This is when I purchased my hat collection)

Anyways, my mom fixed my hair color and it looked awesome except my hair was completely fried. My mom cut 4 inches off of my hair and bought me the miracle of all miracles for damaged hair. It is the K-Pak System, I used a variety of products to help restructure my hair. Here are the products I used: K-PAK Shampoo
damage repair, K-PAK Conditioner damage repair, K-PAK Deep-Penetrating Reconstructor, K-PAK Liquid Reconstructor, K-PAK Intense Hydrator treatment for dry, damaged hair, & K-PAK Leave-In Protectant damage prevention and K-PAK Smoothing Balm for straightening and protecting. Obviously I didn’t use all of the products at once or all in one day but pretty close… For example I would wash and condition my hair and then I would put the reconstructor in my hair while I slept. When I woke up I would rinse the product out of my hair and then I would put in the K-Pak Leave-In protect ant damage prevention. If I was styling my hair I would use the K-Pak Smoothing balm for straightenting and protecting and I purchases a heat protectant  This product saved my hair… I will explain how I used the product when you come to my house tonight to pick it up :) If you like the product, I am going to Peerless on Thursday to pick up my shampoo and conditioner so I can pick you up some  This will save you a lot of money, this products is pricey in salons.

See ya tonight 
